Electric Vehicles - an electrifying experience

One of our Directors, Rick Kerry, recently had an electrifying experiencing recently by attending a course on Electric Vehicles. Read what Rick had to say about this experience and how it has altered his perception of the Electric Vehicle revolution.

Read what he had to say:

"I decided my knowledge of Electric Vehicles needed to get up to date as Ipswich Accident Repair Centre are repairing more and more Hybrid and Electric Vehicles. I booked myself and one of our members of staff nearing the end of their apprenticeship onto the revamp NVQ 3 Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Qualification.

My previous thoughts on Electric Vehicles from a Race Drivers’ perspective was that they were all glorified milk floats!

We travelled to Durham for the 4 day course not thinking my views would be changed but it didn’t take long for Steve Burr to show me the light. It was a tough course as you would expect but I’ve come away with a much greater understanding of this new technology and now I’m convinced it is the future and where our training and focus needs to be.

Personally (as a Race Driver) I love the race engine sound, especially a tuned v8 and I have a classic (ish) MGZT260 with the v8 4.6 Mustang engine in it.I do think I have been blinkered a bit and never really had the time of day for the new Electric Vehicles but I must confess I’m a changed man.
The course covers all aspects of E/V’s, the new technology and how these have come on leaps and bounds.I think we are only a year or 2 away from this really pushing on and the soon to come into production new technologies associated with batteries will see costs, performance, weight and range available on a full charge drastically push this technology. I believe that by 2024 the majority of new cars will be fully electric.

The reduction in moving parts that require servicing and maintenance will drastically reduce maintenance costs so will change the motor industry forever.

I think the service industry will be the biggest hit but the accident repair sector will follow with big changes in construction of these vehicles, so we have push into the future and make sure we are at the cutting edge of technology.

In the coming months, as a few exciting projects are being explored, I’ll write another article and talk about our experiences."
